Joseph J. Murin
Joe Murin has over 40 years of experience in the mortgage and banking industry. Joe served as President of the Government National Mortgage Association (Ginnie Mae) under both the Bush and Obama Administrations. He previously served as CEO of Lender Services, the largest real estate services settlement provider in the industry and also co-founded The Collingwood Group. He is on the Executive Committee of Point Park University, Director of Cherry Hill REIT and is currently Chairman of JJAM Financial. Joe received his degree in business from National Louis University and is a U.S. Armed Forces Veteran.
Brice Scheschuk
Brice Scheschuk, CPA, CA is the CEO of Globalive Capital and Globalive Communications, CFO of Pragmatic Solutions and past CFO of WIND Mobile. He has 20 years experience building and operating companies and has led the capital raising and due diligence efforts at WIND Mobile and Globalive Communications. Brice obtained his CA designation at Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers). His current and past board and advisory positions include WIND Mobile, Globalive Communications, Partsroom, Pragmatic Solutions, Cranson Capital, Espresso Capital, iLookabout(TSX: ILA), Samba Days / Rewards, SceneDoc, Transgaming (TSX: TNG), Varicent Software, Web Host Industry Review and World of Angus.
Steve Schrump
Stephen Schrump is a recognized practitioner, author and a general authority on the systemization of enterprise and industry-class solutions and information technology platforms in the financial services and other market sectors. With over 20 years experience, Stephen’s exemplary career began at the Bank of Montreal (BMO) where he held several senior leadership roles, including Vice President, Technology and Chief Technology Officer, Cebra Inc. (a subsidiary of BMO). Following his ten-year tenure at BMO, Stephen has been involved and participated in launching several successful technology startups, and most recently was the CTO/CIO, Basis100 Inc. Stephen holds a B.Sc. from York University, Canada.
Jim Whitaker
Jim Whitaker is one of two Managing Partners of VL Advisors Inc., the Manager and Investment Advisor of VentureLink Innovation Fund Inc. (“the Fund”). The Fund has assets under management as at December 31, 2016 of approximately $54 million. See www.venturelinkfunds.com.
Jim has held senior investment positions with the VentureLink Group of Funds since 2003 and previously, Working Ventures Canadian Fund Inc. since 1994. At VentureLink, Jim invests principally in the Information Technology and Cleantech sectors including highly successful investments in PlateSpin Ltd. (sold to Novell Inc. NASDAQ: NOVL), Curomax Inc. (sold to DealerTrack Holdings Inc. NASDAQ:TRAK) and Ecosynthetix Inc. (TSX :ECO). While at Working Ventures Jim led the Information Technology Team, was a member of the Management Investment Committee and led investments or acted as Board member on approximately twenty companies. Prior to joining Working Ventures, Mr. Whitaker worked in a number of practice areas at Ernst & Young providing financial advisory services to mid-market companies in a wide range of industries. Mr. Whitaker is a Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Business Valuator.
Herb Willer
Herb Willer is a B. Comm. graduate from University of Toronto and is a chartered accountant. Herb is currently President and founder of HMW Capital Inc, an investment banking firm located in Toronto. The firm is primarily focused on equity investments in the $2 million to $5 million range.
Herb was previously a global partner with Arthur Andersen in charge of the entrepreneurial practice in Ontario (to February 2002). Private equity investments have included Kingsdale Capital Markets Inc, (an IDA member and full brokerage firm) Mill St. Brewery, 450Tel Communications, Intertainment Media Inc., and most recently PitchPoint Solutions Inc.
The key focus of HMW Capital is to create value for shareholders of each investee through active oversight of management performance strategy, recruiting, and execution.
Herb is a member of the local and national advisory committees for the TSX-V, teaches at the interactive management program at Rotman, is Chair of the Pension Committee at the Princess Margaret Hospital, and is on the boards of investee companies both private and public.
